Steps to Becoming an Assemblies of God U.S. Missionary
• Contact the Training and Development Specialist (TDS) within Assemblies of God U.S. Missions (AGUSM).
The TDS schedules a phone interview with theapplicant in order to ask questions about background, ministry experience, educational
experience, training, credential status, and God’s call.
• Meet with your district superintendent or his designeeto explain God’s call regarding national U.S. Missions appointment. The district
must state, in writing, to the TDS that the application process may begin. After receiving written approval, the TDS will send you an
application packet.
• After the application is returned, a copy is given to the appropriate department director to review, to schedule a phone interview,
and to approve continuation of the application process.
• Assemblies of God U.S. Missions reviews the application and sends personal reference forms to those the applicant listed.
Additionally, AGUSM secures a credit check, criminal background check, formal district approval, and, if necessary, work district
approval. Further, the TDS arranges for a proctor to administer personality assessments.
• After all forms are returned, the U.S. Missions Executive Committee (USMEC) decides if the application process should continue.
If the judgment is favorable, the TDS invites the candidate to orientation week for a final interview with departmental leadership to
determine if final approval is granted.
• If departmental leadership gives its final approval, you will stay for candidate orientation to receive training on AGUSM policies,
reporting procedures, and how to raise a support team for your ministry.
• At the end of the week, you will be launched as a candidate missionary. AGUSM requires you to devote full time to raising your budget.
• After you raise 100 percent of your budget, USMEC will change your status to Appointed General.
