Missionary in Training (MIT)
MIT appointment provides opportunity for those with limited ministry
experience to serve apprenticeships and be mentored by an experienced
missionary or pastor. The length of the apprenticeship may vary
depending on circumstances. The MIT applicant must be a licensed
minister with the Assemblies of God.
Special Missionary Appointment
Special appointments are granted to those who have specialized
ministries that do not fit into other categories of assignment and to
those who do not meet the general appointment requirement of
ordination. Normally, it is required that missionaries with special
appointment hold a licensed credential.
Short-Term Missionary Appointment
Short-term appointment may be granted for ministers to serve in a
needed area of ministry. Appointment is normally for one year or less.
Requests are considered on a case by case basis. Short-term
missionaries are not required to submit application forms and are not
required to attend the orientation and interview session. It is
expected that short-term missionaries be ordained.
General Missionary Appointment
General missionary appointment is granted to missionaries who have
raised their full budgets and to foreign missions transfers. Ordination
is required of the appointed general missionary.
Youth Alive
Youth Alive is a campus ministry strategy to present Jesus Christ
and the message of hope to every student on every campus. The 62,000
middle, junior, and high schools with 29 million students are the
biggest mission field in the United States . Youth Alive is training an
army of campus missionaries to share Jesus with friends, empowering
campus clubs, encouraging Prayer Zone Partners to adopt schools and
reaching students through the Seven Project. If you are interested in
becoming a Youth Alive U.S. Missionary, contact National Youth Alive at
800.545.2766.
- Contact the appropriate department within U.S. Missions. You will be asked questions about your
background, ministry experience, educational experience, training,
credential status and God's call on your life.
- Meet with your district superintendent or his designee to explain
your calling in regards to national appointment to U.S. Missions. The
district must state in writing to the appropriate U.S. Missions
department director that you may begin the application process. You
will then receive an application packet (note deadlines for returning
applications).
- Once the U.S. Missions department director has approved the
application, the administration office will pursue a credit report,
criminal background check, district endorsement and references. You
will then receive psychological forms to complete.
- At pre-screening, a determination will be made by the U.S. Missions
Committee whether to continue the application process. If the
determination is favorable, you will be invited to Candidate
Orientation week for training and a final interview. If approved, you
will then be commissioned as a nationally appointed U.S. missionary.
- In most cases, ordination is required for national appointment as a
U.S. missionary. An exception can be made for those who lack
ministerial experience and ordination through the
Missionary-in-Training (MIT) program. In this program, you will work
for a minimum of two years under a veteran minister, with the option of
gaining full missionary status after ordination.
- After receiving official approval from the U.S. Missions Committee,
you will focus full-time on itineration and be considered a candidate
until your full monthly budget is raised. At that time, your status
will change to Appointed General.
