If asked to serve in an area where Christianity is not always welcomed with an open mind, most couples would be nervous to take it head on. But when presented with the opportunity, Daran and Noreen Lemon stepped up to the challenge.
Like most young families stepping into ministry, the Lemons learned firsthand how to balance family with their God-given calling.
“Every season is different. When we had little ones, Noreen did not do as much. Now that they are older, she does more,” says Daran. “You have to let the season and needs of the family dictate how much involvement you have.”
The Lemons have been serving with U.S. Missions for eleven years. They currently serve with Chi Alpha Campus Ministry at Utah Valley University and the University of Utah.
“We love Utah. We love serving where Christians are the minority. It feels like such an honor to be called here,” says the Lemons. “We have an amazing team and we work very hard, but the fruit comes very slowly.”
The Lemons are a great example of Galatians 6:9. We are told, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (NIV).” Though the results of their hard work may not always be seen right away, the Lemons understand that the seeds they are planting are valuable. They continue to push on for the Kingdom, despite their situation. Studying this Kingdom-minded work ethic, is a great opportunity for those looking to go into missions in a challenging area, as there is much to learn from Daran and Noreen.
Along with international dinners and events throughout the school year, the Lemons have started an internship program. This past year, they were blessed with one student who took advantage of the opportunity, and in the upcoming year, look to expand this number to five or six interns.
In addition to this, the Lemon’s’ heart is to be on all six main college campuses in Utah, – a dream they are constantly working toward. “God is faithful, and we must do what He asks of us,” explains the Lemons. “Results are up to Him.”
